In a special event tagged Bringing Back the Light Dugout Canoe as inspired by Wayne Price, the Northern Cultural Expression Society embarks on building a dugout canoe from 26 generations old cedar tree. The crew consisting of Colin Teramura, Justin Smith, Violet Gatensby and others, began building the canoe two years ago.

NCES is an organization of creative people. It began 20 years ago with the mission of helping emerging artists develop their artistic cultural, social and business skills required for their personal success

In a chat with the manager and supervisor of the carving and educational program Colin Teramura, he says they are highly spirited and optimistic the 25ft dugout canoe will be completed by end of September and ready for their hunting voyage next year.

With an increasing demand from both local and international consumers, their artwork includes masks, rattles, paddles, plaques, regalia, and many other significant artworks.
