Friday saw the end of 24 hours of phonetics lessons for Northern Tutchone speakers.
The revitalization of fluent first nations language is on the rise. CYFN in partnership with YNLC and SFU are a large part of that.
A 9 course First Nations Language accreditation has been developed and put on, based on the goals of the first nations.
The course is known as FNLG130 Practical Phonetics for First Nations Languages.
Little salmon Carmack FN are hosting speakers from Pelly, Mayo and surrounding area in Carmacks this week, this course was on Phonetics.
Tina Jules is Director of the Language centre and was on hand to help students through the course.
Ed Schultz, deputy Chief of the LSCFN is part of a massive change in governance and it's approach to culture language heritage and education and connects traditional knowledge with self advancement.
The course is instructed by two accredited linguists, Martina Volfsova, and Dan Tlen, but while students are practicing the International Phonetics Alphabet (IPA), first nations elders, such as Lizzie Hall and Rachel Tom Tom are there to share the fluency of the language they learned as children.
