Not only are the families evacuated from Telegraph Creek and Lower Post without their homes, they are without their way of life. Whitehorse helps as it can.
The Deputy Chief of the Daylu Dena Council says the initial efforts of Yukon firefighters saved many homes in the northern B-C community of Lower Post.
Fred Lutz says with B-C resources stretched thin, Yukon firefighters answered the call right away.
He and his citizens are currently at the Watson Lake recreation centre and probably won't be returning home until sometime next week.
Lutz says a smoke-filled flyover of Lower Post Wednesday confirmed three structures were down and some residents are worried about pets left behind.
But he says spirits of the 150 people evacuated to Watson Lake are good, and firefighters have been keeping an eye on those pets who couldn't be corralled when the evacuation order was issued.
Efforts to feed the evacuees and firefighters are being taken. A trailer is parked and waiting to be filled with donations and sent down to the needy who are very short on food.
