Former Speaker Found Not Guilty of Assault and Sexual Assault

David Laxton admitted to kissing and hugging a woman in the Legislative Assembly Offices.

The former speaker of the Yukon legislative assembly has been found not guilty of both assault and sexual assault.

David Laxton thanked his family, lawyers and supporters outside court after the verdict was released.

Laxton admitted during his trial that he hugged and kissed a woman when she met him at a government building, but he denied the incident was sexual.

The judge said in a written ruling that he questioned the complainant's reliability.
