Yukon has now eased travel restrictions established in response to the Covid-19 pandemic for residents of Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and B.C.
Premier Sandy Silver and Chief medical health officer Brendan Hanley made the announcement before the Canada Day Break. They say people with proof of residence in B.C. will be allowed to enter Yukon without self-isolating for 14 days.
The same will apply to residents of the N.W.T. and Nunavut as long as they travel directly to Yukon from one of the territories or through B.C.
Both the Premier and Dr. Hanley say those jurisdictions have shown good results when it comes to curbing the spread of Covid-19. Canadians who want to come to Yukon from outside of those jurisdictions are welcome too but they have to self-isolate for 2 weeks.
Meanwhile, with Covid-19 infection rates climbing in the United States the Premier says he has received e-mail and other correspondence from First Nations people and others concerned about the number of U.S. plates travelling through the Territory to and from Alaska.
A new respiratory assessment centre will also re-open Monday. Both officials say the centre's location will be released by the end of the week.
The former assesment centre was located at the Convention Centre adjacent to the Coast High Country Inn and closed at the end of May.
