The site is expected to be fully restored in 2020.
The Marwell Tar Pit remediation project in the Whitehorse area is now approximately one-quarter completed.
The pit has become a dumping ground for over 70 years, and was previously used as an oil refinery and became used as a place to store waste tar after 1945.
The cleanup project is expected to cost a total 6.8 millions dollars, with the majority being federally funded.
Half a dozen workers are currently working on the restoration project now and the project is expected to be completed in 2020.
