An update regarding investments from the program was given yesterday from MP Lary Bagnell, MP Michael Mcleod, and Minister of Intergovernmental and Internal Affairs Affairs Dominic Lebanc.

MP Larry Bagnell, MP Dominic Leblanc, and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Internal Trade Dominic Leblanc announced yesterday contributions from Canada's annual $4.1 million dollar Northern Contaminants Program.

The Northern Contaminants Program helps provide constants research and monitoring of pollutants in the Arctic, which are often transferred through these Northern regions  via atmospheric and oceanic processes.

The Honourable Dominic Leblanc said in the announcement "Our continued support for scientific research on contaminants helps Northerners, particularly Indigenous communities, make informed decisions about the foods they harvest and eat."

The funding announcements mention continued funding support for research and monitoring of these contaminants in the Canadian Arctic, including enhanced supports for participation of northern Indigenous partners in the program.

Common pollutants in these regions include heave metals such as mercury and organic pollutants and the five main regional committees that are part of the funding process in Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunavik and Nunatsiavut.
