Repairs to Ross River Suspension Bridge Could Cost More Than YG Anticipated

Government committed $3 million for rehabilitation, but bids suggest lowest cost is $4 million

Decisions are going to have to be made at the territorial level as to how the government will proceed with rehabilitation of the Ross River Suspension Bridge.

In January the government earmarked $3 million for repairs, but bids received from a recent tendering process, indicate the cost of bring the bridge back to use is a minimum $4 million. The highest bid is $5.865 million.

The four bids, all outside firms were from Ontario and British Columbia.

The historic bridge in Ross River has been closed since 2013, after being assessed unsafe by a structural engineer.

The repairs which need to be performed pertain to the decking, stairs, cables and anchors.
