Question period drew attention to the Salvation Army's Centre of Hope, in how they operate with Territorial funds and provide access to day programming.

Minister of Health and Social Services Pauline Frost recognized the complaints brought up by the leader of the third party, saying that it is a contractual commitment made by the Centre to provide, and there would be consequences to the operations funding if it's not addresses.

The initial capital budget allocated 3.1 million dollars to the centre.  That provides 1.2 million dollars per year for operational costs and a $700,000 initial grant for furniture and start up costs.

There are four main deliverable focuses included in the contribution agreements, which are daily food services, transitional housing, and transitional supports, as well as day programming, which was the concern of the MLA from Whitehorse Centre, Liz Hanson.

Gardening was done throughout the summer to provide programming and to beautify the outdoor space.

Reasons to celebrate and be thankful for at the salvation army given the 45 beds in total, designated as transitional or as a drop-in for both men and women.  Transitional supports that follow when they move out of the suite is the assortment of kitchen utensils and cookware to initiate a smooth phase out.

Colleen at the Centre of hope who gave CHON News a tour and an overview of the day programming says this month they offered nutritional classes, cooking classes, self awareness care, crafting, board games movie nights, painting classes and are also in the market for a karaoke machine.
