Teslin Tlingit Council Looking to Restore Chinook Salmon

Program at Deadman Creek could see as many as 75,000 eggs deployed.

The Teslin Tlingit Council says it wants to build on a pilot program from 2016 to plant chinook salmon eggs into Deadman Creek. The in-stream incubation program aims at restoring a spawning salmon population in the Creek.

In documents filled with the Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Board, the First Nation says over the next two years, it will gradually increase the number of eggs deployed into the Creek until the number is sufficieent to meet restoration goals.

In the early phases, its predicted that 20,000-30,000 eggs will be planted but long term forecast could reach 75,000 eggs.

The Morely River will see a similar program, but on a much smaller scale, between 5000-6000 eggs.
