Food for Fines, now officially lunched in Whitehorse.
The city of Whitehorse announced via a media release, the commencement of the 17th year edition of the annual Food for Fines campaign.
Anyone with parking ticket from November 29 through December 13, can choose the option of donating food at the value of their ticket instead of cash.
Food for fines program has been active since 2000 and it aims to support the Whitehorse Food Bank, the Skookum Jim Friendship Centre and Kaushee’s Place, the women’s transition home.
Anyone donating food in place of cash is asked to donate non-perishable items such as canned food and dried goods. The Food for Fine campaign will run until Friday, December 15th.
According to the release, money collected from eligible tickets that are paid online through whitehorse.ca/paynow will also be donated and expired parking meter and two-hour zone ticket fines are also eligible.
The city of Whitehorse has raised over $92,000 in cash and food donations Since 2005, through the food for fines campaign.
