YG Propose New Law to Help RCMP in Missing Persons Cases

Currently Mounties limited in what personal info they can access.

The territorial government says it wants to make it easier for law enforcement to investigate missing persons cases, while still protecting the privacy of that person.

The government says currently the RCMP is limited in the activities officers can perform and the tools they can use during a search for a missing person, unless there is evidence of criminal activity.

New proposed legislation would help police access personal information to advance the investigation.

A public consultation period is now open until September 11th.
