Cancer Care Fund Charity Auction took place in the Legislative Building foyer on Tuesday to raise money for Yukoners who are fighting cancer.
Last night at the Cancer Care Fund Charity Art Auction, thousands were raised to alleviate costs for Yukoners fighting cancer.
Karen Forward, president of the Whitehorse Hospital Foundation says in total, $16,000 was raised for the Yukoner Cancer Care Fund from the auction sales, calendar purchases and generous donations.
Geraldine Van Bibber, who helped begin the Cancer fund was thankful to Karen and her work at the foundation, which allows all proceeds to to go towards the fund instead of towards overhead costs.
12 pieces of art were auctioned off; Local art included paintings, blown glass, portraits and a carved mask by artist Tom Dickson Jr. and a Tufted beaded Bracelet by Twyla Wheeler.
The pieces are the focus of the 2019 calendar available for purchase at Lumel Studios or the Hospital for $20 a piece. Calendars are also available for bulk orders through the Hospital Foundation.
Funds raised last night are on top of those given by the Yukon River Quest paddling team, Stix Together, who donated $10,000.
While Brad Whitelaw, captain of the Klondike Spirit Boat in Dawson who with musical guest Hank Karr have raised $6000 this year for the charity.
Entertainment last night was provided by Roxx Hunter while the auctioneer, Tyler Olson from Victoria donated his skills to create the right atmosphere for giving.
Printed photography created and donated by Dr. Ken Quong and two pieces by Arjay Hill.
Paintings created and donated by Kathy Piwowar Lillian Loponen, Erin Dixon, Jackie Irvine and Wendy Thompson.
A blown glass Fish was donated by Lumel Studios.
Tom Dickson Jr from Teslin donated a Carved Mask and Twyla Wheeler out of Carmacks donated a Tufted Bracelet.
