Yukon Commissioner Angélique Bernard Launches Laureate Program

The Story Laureate will create works that focus on cultural, historical, and heritage themes and will serve as an ambassador for the literary arts, story telling and literacy in the context of Yukon’s past, present and future.

The Commissioner’s Office is launching the Story Laureate of Yukon program. The Story Laureate will create works that focus on cultural, historical, and heritage themes that are relevant to the people who live in Yukon.

The Story Laureate will serve as an ambassador for the literary arts, story telling and literacy in the context of Yukon’s past, present and future. The term will run from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2022.

Commissioner of Yukon Angélique Bernard, said in a statement, It is my honour to launch the new Story Laureate of Yukon program. We want to have a program that is more inclusive to the non-written word artists, as well as authors, poets and other written story tellers.

Bernard says creativity is one of the Commissioner’s pillars and the Laureate Program is a perfect fit. The Story Laureate of Yukon will receive a stipend of $5000 per year for their two-year term and then will have to wait six years to reapply.
