The Adäka Cultural Festival, which has been running annually since 2011, brings together Indigenous artists from the Yukon, Alaska, and the Northwest Territories.
In a surprise move, the Yukon First Nations Culture and Tourism Association has announced the cancellation of several events for 2025, including the Adäka Cultural Festival. This decision comes despite the association's previous announcement that Adäka would be held every two years.
The Adäka Cultural Festival, which has been running annually since 2011, brings together Indigenous artists from the Yukon, Alaska, and the Northwest Territories. The festival was initially scheduled to be held every two years, with the next event planned for 2026.
However, the association has now cancelled the festival, citing the need to ensure the organization's "long-term sustainability." Other cancelled events include the Bead, Hide and Fur Symposium, the Yúk'e Arts Market, and the YFN Arts Program.
In a statement, the association said it is currently in a transition phase and is focusing on initiatives that directly benefit its members. Despite the cancellations, the association remains committed to advocating for Indigenous tourism and arts in the Yukon.
